Blow Moulding

Gemini specializes in the manufacture of blow moulded components, having a wealth of experience in the production of components in a vast range of materials and  huge variety of forms and sizes. EBM can be used for many plastics; from PP and HDPE to PETG . It allows for a high rate of production with relatively low tooling cost, and can incorporate design features such as handles and co-extrusion/multilayers.

We have single layer extrusion blow moulding machines for micro moulding up to 10Ltr capacity machines to meet a diverse range of customer requirements. Gemini also have Co-extrusion blow moulding capability which can produce parts in a range of materials and finishes with the added advantage of producing 2-7 layers in different materials.

We support low to medium volume production from our facility in the UK and are known for our speedy reaction times in order to meet today’s demanding requirements. Some of the materials we process include HDPE, LDPE, PP, Nylon, Glass filled, PETG as well as many others including a range of special additives, depending on client choice.

Extrusion Blow moulding Process

Extrusion Blow moulding is a process of producing hollow plastic parts by melting plastic resin and extruding the plastic into a mould tool. Once the plastic is extruded through the machine it flows through the open two halves of a mould tool, the two tool halves shut with the plastic inside then pressurised air is pushed into the mould to form the shape of the tool cavity inside. Once it cools the mould is opened releasing the part so the process can be repeated again.

 
Co-Extrusion Blow moulding Process

The Co-extrusion process allows parts to be blown with the bottle wall being made up of different layers of plastics. The process works in a similar way to extrusion blow moulding with the main difference that the machine can control the flow of multiple extruders which then extrudes several layers of material at the same time into the tool cavity. The mould shuts and pressurised air is then pushed into the tool to form the shape of the cavity, then releases the part and you are ready to repeat the process. This is a good process to achieve decorative finishes that would be either unachievable or too expensive to manufacture in a single layer extrusion process and you can alter the flow of material so different wall thicknesses are achieved to suit the purpose.
